What Legends of Slots actually plays like

I'll be honest, I almost skipped Legends of Slots because of the name. I'm glad I didn't. Once you're past the splash screen it's a bright, friendly matching puzzle with a roster of fantasy heroes, and it's got more going on than first impressions suggest.

The core loop is spinning a small grid and matching symbols to charge up whichever hero you've brought along. Each hero changes how a board resolves, so there's a small layer of planning before every round. I found myself swapping my lineup depending on which symbol tiles I wanted to lean into.

Controls are as simple as they come. One tap starts a spin, one tap uses a hero ability when it's ready. It works fine held in one hand on a train, which is where I did most of my playing. The animations are chunky and cheerful without getting in the way.

My advice if you try it: don't just autoplay through the early stages. Take a minute to read what each hero does, because by the middle of the game the boards expect you to combine their abilities on purpose. That's where Legends of Slots stops being idle and starts being a puzzle.

It's not a deep game and it doesn't try to be. But for short sessions it's well made, it runs smooth, and it's a nicer surprise than its title lets on.
